Duo on $250,000 bail each over larceny of $2.7M

Two men accused of larceny of $2.7 million which was stashed in a parked car were placed on $250,000 bail each when they appeared yesterday in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton.

Parmanand Rampersaud and Jude McLennan who are facing a simple larceny charge allegedly robbed Zang Wun Zai of $2.7 million.

Rampersaud and McLennan on March 29 at Good Hope, East Bank Demerara, allegedly stole US$5,000($1,000,000) and $1.7 million.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Lionel Harvey stated that on the day in question the virtual complainant went to Good Hope, parked his car and went to transact business.

Subsequently Rampersaud reportedly went to the vehicle and removed a plastic bag which contained the money. He was seen by the VC heading into a car which was later identified to the police. Subsequent investigations revealed that the motorcar belonged to McLennan.

The two accused have to return to court on May 16.
