Jamaica businessman gets six months for bribing cop

(Jamaica Gleaner) Kingston businessman Dick Hart was today sentenced to six months’ imprisonment at hard labour for bribing a policeman.

Sentencing was handed down in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court this morning after Hart pleaded guilty to the charge of bribery.

It’s reported that in February the businessman offered a Police Sergeant J$250,000 to dispose of a case against him.  The policeman, who is attached to the Fraud Squad, reported the matter to the Anti Corruption Branch. A sting operation was set up and Hart was arrested and charged after he handed over a portion of the money to the policeman.
