Sleuths still stumped by ‘Jo Jo’ fatal shooting

Investigators have been unable to solve last month’s shooting at Sparendaam, East Coast Demerara that left one man dead and another wounded.

A senior police official told Stabroek News that there are no concrete clues as to what sparked the March 10 shooting. He said that there have been no new developments.

The men Giovanni Leitch, called ‘Jo Jo,’ and his friend Devon Agard called `Chucky’ came under fire at Northslip Street, Sparendaam from two unmasked gunmen who fired several shots, hitting Leitch four times about the body and Agard twice to his abdomen. The shooting occurred sometime after three pm.

The two wounded men were rushed to the Georgetown Hospital where Leitch was later admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after surgery and Agard to the ward.

Leitch died on March 19 from what doctors described to relatives as severe internal damage. Agard was later discharged.

While Agard and his relatives had refused to speak with the media relatives of Leitch had said that he was not involved in any wrong-doing and could come up with no reason why someone would want to shoot him.

Following his death, they called on the police to work aggressively to find the killers

Crime Chief Seelall Persaud had said that both men were known to police. He said that ranks were working on information received that the shooting was in retaliation for a crime that they had committed.
