Keishar’s consolidates in one store

Keishar’s Variety, the hardware and home improvement company, has discontinued operations at the corner of Regent and Alexander streets and has consolidated business at three buildings all in Hadfield Street, though expansion is on the cards in the near future.

Stabroek News understands that this shift in operations came about a month ago, when the company had advertised blowout sales and discounts on items with a view to clearing them off.

When this newspaper visited the Regent Street outlet yesterday, there was a sign outside the door in English and in what appeared to be Portuguese that the Ladies’ and Children’s Departments have been moved to Hadfield Street.

A manager located in one of the Hadfield Street buildings told Stabroek News that all of the staff had been retained in the move and that there was no ‘downsizing’. But she said that during the busy Christmas season, only casual staff were hired. The manager said that since the closure of the Regent Street business, two additional buildings assumed the operations and business is ongoing there in the usual manner. She expressed surprise that this newspaper would have any interest in this phase of the company’s development.

The manager said that while the company has plans to expand, this is not being done at the moment. Efforts to reach the owner of the business, Shiv Nandalall had proved futile yesterday as staff said that he was unavailable.
