Chavez braces for more cancer treatment

(Jamaica Gleaner) Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez was scheduled to return to Cuba today for a third round of radiotherapy to treat a recurrence of his cancer.

Chavez made the announcement during a telephone call that was broadcast on state television.

He says the daily radiation treatment in Havana would help him in his battle with cancer.

In February, Chavez underwent surgery to remove a second tumour from his pelvic area.

His announcement came a day after an emotional plea for his life at an Easter mass in his hometown of Barinas.

Speaking through tears, the Venezuelan President asked Jesus to give him more time because he had things left to do.
