Couple to pay $50,000 each in court costs after domestic matter

A couple had to pay dearly on Tuesday when a domestic matter  landed them in court and despite their wish to discontinue the case after deciding to work things out and move on they were both ordered to pay court costs of $50,000 each.

Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court also placed the couple on a one-year bond to keep the peace and instructed them to seek counseling because they needed help.

Charges were brought against Noel Pedro for the use ofthreatening behaviour on April 1  and for the use of abusive language on April 2 towards his spouse Marana Joseph.
On Monday the couple had also appeared before the court for two other charges to be read but Joseph was absent.

The magistrate on Tuesday informed them that they would have to pay $50,000 in court costs on each charge and the payment was to be divided between them.

They both seemed shocked at the amount they have to pay but left the court arm in arm.
