No bail over abusive language to his nieces

A man was on Tuesday denied bail by Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton  in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court after he pleaded not guilty to using abusive language to his nieces.

The court heard that on April 2 Fahan Shaw  used abusive language to his nieces Sophia and Elvia Gobin who both made a report to the police.

Shaw initially pleaded guilty to the charges but when giving an explanation he said that he got upset when his nieces moved a bottle of grape wine he was drinking while in the verandah and he threw away a brush they had left there and he went away.

The magistrate then entered a not guilty plea  because the man said he did not use abusive language to his nieces.

Police Sergeant Gordon Mansfield, prosecuting, said  that the girls and their uncle all reside in the same home and on the day in question at 11:00 hours the defendant had an argument with his nieces over a bottle of alcohol. The nieces reported the matter and he was arrested and charged.

The virtual complainants told the court that their uncle is on a bond at present but  he does not adhere to its conditions and  he had been on a number of other  bonds with which he did  not comply.

The court was able to confirm the references to prior cases and  the defendant was denied bail.
