(Jamaica Gleaner) Absolutely nothing could dampen the spirits of 12-year-old Shemar Pringle. The bright-eyed goat farmer, anticipating a soggy day, left home on Easter Monday shod in water boots and a cap. His efforts were not in vain. At the end of a lacklustre, rain-drenched St Mary Agri Expo, Pringle copped the title of Champion Goat Farmer in the parish.
Grinning broadly while clutching his trophy and standing tall beside his father, Lloyd Pringle, himself a goat farmer, the first-former at St Mary High School told Rural Express that he “is very elated”.
The judging panel, headed by veterinarian Keisha Robinson White, presenting the award, said that Pringle’s animals scored highest in all the indicators used to judge. These include form, body size and weight, as well as health markers such as quality of the animals’ teeth, feet and coating.
