Female relative charged with murder of T&T child

(Trinidad Express) A teenage relative of two-year-old Aliyah Johnson was charged yesterday with the child’s murder.

A 23-year-old man, who was also detained in connection with the incident, was released.

The couple were held on Easter Sunday, the day little Aliyah died.

Police said the woman, who claimed she is one month pregnant, confessed to beating the child on the day she died.

She will appear before a Siparia magistrate this morning.

The woman was detained at the Penal Police Station, while the male suspect was held at the Siparia Police Station.

An autopsy performed on the little girl found that she died from blunt force trauma to the abdomen which resulted in acute internal blood loss. The blow ruptured Aliyah’s liver, causing her to bleed to death.

Little Aliyah was not sexually assaulted, the autopsy also found.

Tissue samples were taken from the child’s body for toxicology testing.

Aliyah was laid to rest on Saturday, following a simple service at the La Divina Pastora RC Church in Siparia.
