Stabroek News was reliably informed yesterday that the man implicated is a popular shop owner within the community of Tuschen where both he and the child reside.
It was reported that neighbours yesterday saw what was transpiring and immediately reported the matter to the Tuschen Policing Group who promptly acted and arrested the individual before handing him over to the Leonora Police Station.
At the West Demerara Regional Hospital, doctors informed the relatives of the girl that her hymen was broken.
Investigations are ongoing.
