Body of vagrant woman found on No. 19 road

The battered body of a vagrant woman was found on the Number 19 Public Road, in Berbice yesterday morning.

Stacy Conway, said to be in her late 40s or early 50s and a mother of two, was reportedly last seen alive entering a man’s car near the New Amsterdam stelling road.

When her body was found by police, injuries to side of her body were evident. Her younger sister, Jacqueline Conway, identified her body. She had initially received a report that two of her sisters, Stacy and Cora, had been killed. She later found Cora, while a trip to the hospital mortuary confirmed Stacy’s death.

The woman noted that a vagrant, who lived in the unoccupied building along the New Amsterdam Stelling road with her sister, reported that a known man, with a black car, had requested that she join his car. The man, she said, would from time to time give the vagrants clothing, food and money.

According to Jacqueline Conway, only last Friday she had advised her late sister to get off the streets and take up residence at their parents’ Edinburgh village house with their youngest sister, but she declined.

A post-mortem examination is to be done at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
