Three men held by police after attempted Meten-Meer-Zorg break-in

Police say that at about 0020h today, businessman Abdool Hamid, 39 years, reported to the police that a gang of men were breaking into his business place at Meten-Meer-Zorg.

The police say they responded and as they approached the area, the men ran in different directions in their bid to escape.  The police say they gave chase and one of the ranks caught up with Ramesh Persaud, 39 years, of De Kinderen, WCD, who attacked the rank with a piece of wood and began to lash him about the body.

Police say that Persaud continued his attack on the policeman despite being called upon to desist, causing the rank to resort to the use of force and he discharged a round from his service firearm which struck Persaud to his right side.  Police say that Persaud has been admitted a patient under guard at the GPHC.

Two other men were arrested by the police and are in custody assisting with the investigations. A cutting shears and a length of pointed iron were recovered at the scene by the police, police added.
