One bid received for $100M West Dem road project consultancy

Only one bid has been received for an over $100M consultancy contract for updating of the feasibility study and designs for the West Demerara road improvement project, covering the section from Vreed-en-Hoop West to Parika East.

The German-based DIWI Germany GmbH in association with Marcel Gaskin was the lone bidder, with a bid of US$498,000 or $102M, when the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) yesterday opened bids.

The procuring entity for the project is the Ministry of Public Works and Communication.

The Ministry also procured for electrical works for the installation of a fibre optic cable from Lethem to Providence. The Huawei International Pte Ltd, of Trinidad, submitted a bid of $104,407,888 while Cummings Electrical Company submitted a bid of $100,358,425. They were the only two companies that submit bids,

Also, a contract for materials for a baby-friendly hospital initiative saw bids submitted by Pavnik Press ($10,779,300) and Metro Office and Stationery Supplies ($2,422,602), while a contract for the supply and delivery of meals for the Cyril Potter College of Education attracted bids from The Beacon Foundation ($345,100) and John Gonsalves ($336,250).

There was also to be the opening of bids for Guyana Water Inc’s Linden Water Supply Rehabilitation Programme yesterday, however, because of the absence of the company’s representative, the opening has been postponed to a later date.
