No.77 bystander shot after police fire at cutlass man

Police say that at about 1115h today, ranks responded to a report of a man armed with a cutlass behaving disorderly and using indecent language at No. 77 Village Housing Scheme, Corentyne, Berbice.

Police say that on arrival, the police approached cane-harvester Anthony Dyaram, 26 years, of No. 77 Village, who attacked the police with the cutlass.  This caused the police to resort to the use of force and a round was discharged which struck Mohamed Inshan, 32 years of Queenstown, Corriverton, and who was in a nearby yard, to his left leg.

Police say that Inshan was admitted to the Skeldon Hospital and Dyaram has been arrested.

Investigations are in progress.
