Vreed-en-Hoop, Stabroek stelling repairs starting this week -T&HD

The Transport and Harbours Department (T&HD) has scheduled rehabilitation works on the Vreed-en-Hoop, Region Three and Stabroek, Georgetown stellings for this week.

General Manager at the T&HD Marclene Merchant said the Department had planned to start works on the stellings last weekend but they were rescheduled to yesterday, according to the Government Information Agency press release.

In response to an article published in the Sunday edition of the Kaieteur News about the dilapidated state of the stellings, Merchant blamed speedboat operators for the rapidly deteriorating structure. “They dock on the steps rather than alongside it… they come with speed and dock on the stairways… itself, which causes the structure to be weakened over a period of time,” she said. Merchant also said the T&HD will explore the possibilities of installing docking facilities in order to protect the structure.
