Both suspects in T&T girl’s murder may be in Guyana

The second suspect that has been linked to the murder of 18-year-old Nikita Ramischand is said to be Guyanese and is believed to have fled here as well.

Ramischand, the daughter of prominent Guyana-born attorney Odai Ramischand, was brutally killed on April 25 and the main suspect in the murder is a 25-year-old Guyanese man, who her family had hired three months ago to complete some work on their property.

Trinidadian police later disclosed that there were two persons involved in the murder and not one as was originally believed. There are now reports that both men are Guyanese and that both have fled here.

Both suspects in T&T girl’s murder may be in Guyana

An article in the Trinidad Newsday, dated May 1, revealed that the main suspect fled to Guyana about five hours after he allegedly murdered the teen. CCTV (closed-circuit television) footage at Piarco International Airport, the report continued, showed him in company with a cousin before he boarded a Caribbean Airlines Limited (CAL) flight to Guyana. It is unclear whether the man’s cousin is the second suspect.

Efforts made yesterday to contact acting Police Commissioner Leroy Brumell for an update were unsuccessful.

Crime Chief Seelall Persaud told Stabroek News last week that the police had contacted the main suspect’s mother at his last known address on the East Bank of Demerara but she had indicated that she was unaware of his location.

Nikita is believed to have been ambushed while walking to her mother’s salon, which is situated in the compound of their LP 46 Maracas Royal Road, Maracas, St. Joseph, Trinidad and Tobago home. She was reportedly dragged behind the premises and stabbed to her abdomen. Her bloodied body was discovered behind the salon at about 8pm.

An autopsy performed by pathologist Dr. Eastlyn McDonald-Burris revealed that the teenager bled to death after her throat was slit. She also suffered six stab wounds to the abdomen.
