Bajan sports journalist hurt in rally accident

(Barbados Nation) Veteran sports journalist Trevor Thorpe and a law enforcement officer remain hospitalized after being struck by a car at  Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Shakedown Stages Rally in St John yesterday.

Thorpe, 60, suffered severe head injuries in the accident and was set to undergo surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) last night.

Also injured in the crash was Island Constable, Samuel Hackett, but up to press time his condition remained unknown.

The incident occurred on Stage 10 of the rally between Pool and Society when the Peugeot 306 GTI6 driven by Sean Fields/Darnley Rayside, ventured off route just after 3:30 p.m.
