Father accused of stealing daughter’s cash freed

A father who was accused of stealing his daughter’s cash had his simple larceny charge discharged yesterday in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court by Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton because of incorrect particulars in the  charge.

Bertie Caines and Jacqulin Caines were yesterday before the court as  Bertie was charged with stealing the property of his daughter Jacqulin.

According to Police Prosecutor Corporal Simone Payne  on Monday at Cross Street, Werk-en-Rust,  Jacqulin gave her father a bag with cash, among other things, and sometime later when she went to collect it the cash was missing.

After being given a chance to speak Jacqulin pointed out to the court that  some particulars of the charge  were incorrectly stated, one being the time of the incident. She also maintained her innocence in an earlier charge made against her by her father who accused her of using  threatening behaviour towards him.

She said that she looks out for her father because she is the only one he has.

The magistrate after listening to the woman and confirming the irregularities in the file reprimanded the two and discharged the case.
