Skeldon man struck down by canter

An 18 year old Skeldon resident remains in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital  after he was stuck down by a canter truck on his way home yesterday afternoon.

Imran Baksh, of Lot 19, No.78 Village, Corentyne, was hit while riding his bicycle along the Public Road. His mother Patsy Williams told this newspaper that he had left on his bicycle to buy food from a nearby Halal restaurant and was returning home when he was hit. She said that he told her that as he was crossing the road in front of a parked truck, the speeding canter collided with him.

All of the young man’s ribs were broken and one of his lungs punctured due to the accident.

The young man’s father Ali Baskh is currently mining in the North West and efforts were up to press time being made to contact him about his son’s condition.

The driver of the canter is in the lockups of the Springlands Police Station while his vehicle has been impounded.
