Arthur says has cure for Bajan economy

(Barbados Nation) Former Prime Minister Owen Arthur believes he has the medicine for the Barbados economy. He just needs it to be given to the patient.

And Arthur is convinced the most critical issues facing a complete recovery will be how expenditure on health and education will be managed, and that a task force be established to advise on optimal funding arrangements for the island’s tertiary system.

Giving a major one-hour address yesterday to the Barbados Employers’ Confederation, Arthur revealed a number of alternative ideas that could place the country back on the road to economic recovery.

“Barbados needs to be restored to a path of growth and development in which the problems of low economic growth, falling competitiveness and productivity, underinvestment and dissaving, spiralling prices, the declining viability of our main enterprises, and the continuing crisis in Government’s fiscal affairs are addressed by a set of coherent policies which support and reinforce each other,” Arthur said.
