No century for Shiv, Broad strikes with first ball of day

LONDON,  (Reuters) – England fast bowler Stuart Broad struck with the first ball of the second day to dismiss West Indies for 243 in the first test at Lord’s today.

Broad had Shannon Gabriel caught by Graeme Swann at second slip for a golden duck on his debut to complete test-best figures of seven for 72.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul was left stranded on 87 not out, 13 runs short of his 26th test century.

The 37-year-old Chanderpaul became the ninth highest run-scorer in tests on Thursday, overtaking India opener Sunil Gavaskar and moving on to 10,142 runs in his career.
