Man granted bail over theft of raw gold

A man was yesterday placed on $450,000 bail after he was charged with the offence of simple larceny at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Hazel-Octive Hamilton.

Andrew Bailey, 23,  of South Road, Bourda is accused of stealing 5 oz of raw gold, property of Calvin Powers, valued $1,770,000 on May 11 at Imbaimadi Landing, Upper Mazaruni River from Calvin Powers. After the charges were read to the accused, the prosecution did not object to bail, but asked that it be granted in a substantial amount.

The matter is fixed for June 18 for continuation.
