Cheap tablet computers for T&T students

(Trinidad Guardian) Students may soon have the one of the world’s cheapest tablet computers in their hands, thanks to discussions being held between the Government of T&T and Skanda, an Indian technology company. This was revealed during a press conference held yesterday at the Indian High Commission on Victoria Avenue, Port-of-Spain, to welcome secretary in the Indian Ministry of Culture Sangita Gairola to T&T. Also present were Malay Mishra, High Commissioner of India to Trinidad and Tobago, and GS Rautela, director-general of the National Council of Science Museums, India.

Gairola and an 11-member delegation were in T&T for the opening of an exhibition titled A Culture of Science, an exhibition of the science and technology of ancient and modern India held in collaboration with the National Institute of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology. Rautela told the media that Skanda had made an initial visit last month through InvesTT and was in discussions with the Government. The Ministry of Education’s media relations co-ordinator, Yolanda Morales-Carvalho, said the ministry was seeking to acquire tablets and was open to offers from other suppliers, once they met the necessary requirements.
