Mechanic denies damage to property and larceny charges

A mechanic of North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was yesterday granted bail in the sum of $65,000 when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton accused of damage to property and larceny.

Ronald Newton of Lot 3673 North Ruimveldt between June 3, 2011 and February 17, 2012, is alleged to have maliciously damaged one minibus bumper and three tires, all to the value of $22,000, the property of Lloyd Thomas.

During the same period, Newton allegedly stole one minibus battery, valued $25,000, property of the same Lloyd Thomas and fraudulently converted the battery to  his personal use.

The damage to property charge was laid indictably and so he was not allowed to enter a plea but he was able to plead not guilty to the larceny charge.

Newton was placed on $65,000 bail for both offences and was told that this amount would be recorded on both jackets.

However Newton was granted the application of the AJA (Administration of Justice Act)  on his indictable matter which allowed him to plead not guilty and he will proceed to trial on June 21.
