Farmer on passport forgery charge

A 33-year-old farmer on an indictable charge of passport forgery was on Tuesday placed on $65,000 bail by Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Ramchand Ramnauth of 163 Woodley Park, West Coast Demerara,  allegedly between April 24 and 27 in Georgetown  with intent to defraud forged the entry stamp date on his passport changing it from 2012-04- 24 to read 2012-02-24.

Ramnauth was represented by Attorney-at-Law Vic Puran who made an application for bail on his behalf.

Puran asked the court to consider the fact that his client has no prior conviction nor does he have any pending matters before the court.

Police Prosecutor Corporal Simone Payne had no objections to Ramnauth being granted bail.

The magistrate then put him on  bail in the sum of $65,000.
