Juries empanelled in trials for Friendship, Kitty murders

A jury was yesterday empanelled in the High Court for the trial of Sherwin Barnwell, who is accused of a murder on Christmas Eve in 2006.

Barnwell, called “Reya” or “Rio,” was committed to stand trial for the murder of Nohar Bahadur between the December 24 and December 25, 2006, at Friendship, East Bank Demerara.

Bahadur reportedly left his Friendship, East Bank Demerara home for a barbeque, where he had an argument with a man.  Later, while heading home he was confronted by two men on a bicycle.

It is alleged that just after 10pm the men robbed Bahadur and then beat him to death. His body was discovered next to his home with marks of violence and his face damaged beyond recognition.

In addition, a jury was also empanelled for the trial of Eon Williams, who is accused of an April, 2007 fatal stabbing in Kitty.

Williams, who pleaded not guilty, is charged with the murder of Kwesi Wilson between April 9 and 10, in 2007.

Wilson was allegedly stabbed to death by Williams, said to be a good friend, after an argument at the Kitty, Railway Embankment resulted in a fight.

It was reported at the time that Wilson went into a friend’s yard but the accused pursued him. The friend then told them to leave his premises, which resulted in Williams leaving while Wilson remained. About 30 minutes after the accused left, Wilson left the friend’s yard for home.

The accused reportedly took a different route, scaled Wilson’s fence and waited for him to enter his front gate. It was there that Wilson was stabbed in his abdomen and his left hand. He died while awaiting medical attention.
