Scotia takes ‘bright smiles’ to convalescent home children

Children of the Red Cross Convalescent Home at D’Urban Backlands received donations of oral hygiene kits and mosquito nets from Scotiabank Carmichael Street branch last Saturday, as part of the bank’s Bright Future Programme volunteer event.

Matthew Langevine (sixth, left), Branch Manager of Scotiabank, Carmichael Street, hands over the donation to a representative of the home, while staff of the bank look on.

The donation, which was titled “Bright Smiles,” was aimed at teaching the children of the home the importance of oral hygiene, the bank stated in a press release. The oral hygiene kits comprised toothbrushes, toothpastes and dental floss, which were donated by employees of the bank. A demonstration on proper brushing techniques for children was also conducted by a representative from the Cheddi Jagan Dental School. A donation of snack food was also made by Geddes Grant to the kids of the home.

The bank’s charitable efforts, under its Bright Future Programme, are aimed at being relevant and responsive to the needs of each community at a grassroot level, and provide support across the fields of health, arts, education, social service, sports and the environment.
