Woman, 56, put on $10,000 bail over assault of niece

A 56-year-old woman accused of assaulting her niece was yesterday placed on $10,000 bail after appearing before Magistrate Hazel-Octive Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation against Yvette Mentore is that on May 17 at Georgetown, she unlawfully assaulted Maurise Mentore so as to cause her actual bodily harm.

The resident of 74 Laing Avenue, Georgetown, denied the assault charge when it was read to her.

No facts of what transpired on the day in question were presented to the court.

Mentore was unrepresented by counsel but requested bail and was granted same in the sum of $10,000. The prosecution had no objection to the defendant being granted her pretrial liberty.

The parties live at the same address and as a result were placed on a bond to keep the peace pending the determination of the matter.

The matter was transferred to Court One for July 25.
