Cumberland man jailed for home invasion robbery

Thirty-six-year-old Gordon Rollins of Cumberland, East Canje, was sentenced to one year imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to a charge of break and enter and larceny before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at the New Amsterdam Court on Monday.

Police Corporal Roberto Figueira, prosecuting, said that on July 4  Khemraj Chartiary  secured his home and retired  to bed  but on awakening the following day he observed that his kitchen had been broken into.

A report was made at Reliance Police Station and the  ranks contacted Rollins who was a  suspect  and he confessed to committing the offence.

Rollins subsequently handed over to the police a bag, a hammock, and a cap, all valued $14,000.

He pleaded for leniency in court, saying that he did not know what had overcome him to cause him to commit the offence.
