Woman charged after Stevedore incident with police

A Stevedore resident was placed on $10,000 bail after she appeared on Friday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton charged with disorderly behaviour and assaulting a Peace Officer.

The charge read that on Thursday last, 22-year old, Shonette Niles of Lot 3400 Stevedore Housing Scheme, South Ruimveldt acted in a disorderly manner and assaulted a peace officer.

She pleaded not guilty to the charge and is expected to make her next court appearance on July, 27.

On Thursday, evening, Police intervened during an argument between two men, in the Stevedore Housing Scheme area, during which one of them attempted to run resulting in the Police firing approximately ten shots.

The man was later arrested and made to lie face down under the seat of the Police van. During the confrontation between the officers and the men amidst the firing of shots, Niles began screaming for her nephew who was on the road at the time.

Officers, covered in mud from running behind the man, later attempted to enter the woman’s home but were denied. She was subsequently arrested.
