Another man, 23-year old Akeem Nelson, of Waterloo Street who was the pillion rider on the bike, was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) in a stable condition. He sustained a broken right leg and other injuries about his body.

Reports are that around 4:30 pm yesterday, the two friends were heading north along Camp Street on Thomas’ bike, bearing registration CG 3607 when they were struck from behind by a motorcar, bearing registration, PPP 3163. The men were flung into the air and reports are that Thomas sustained head and neck injuries. The duo was rushed to the GPH where Thomas was pronounced dead on arrival.

Thomas’ father, police Superintendent Edgar Thomas told this newspaper that his son had called him minutes earlier and informed that he was heading to a social event in the city. He said soon after he received the grim news of his son’s passing.

Nelson told this newspaper from his hospital bed that his right foot was broken and that he was experiencing pains about his body. He said that he could not speak much about the accident and was shocked at his friend’s passing.

Nelson’s relatives who gathered outside the hospital’s Accident and Emergency (A&E) ward related that the young man and his friend had been at their Waterloo Street home earlier in the day and the duo informed that they were going to hang out later in the afternoon.

Nelson’s sister said that the incident came as a surprise since Thomas was known to ride his motorcycle in a careful manner.

Last evening, the mother of Thomas’ child was taken to the GPH after she collapsed after receiving news of the man’s passing.

The driver of the motorcar which was involved in the accident was taken into police custody at the scene.
