Fire destroys army cadet barracks at Timehri

The living quarters for Cadet Officers at the army’s Camp Stephenson at Timehri were destroyed by fire early this morning.

The cause of the blaze is unclear. The fire started around 4am, Stabroek News was told. According to a rank, the cadets were on an exercise run when the flames were noticed. There was no one in the building at the time. Despite their efforts, they were unable to save the building and most lost all their personal belongings. One rank said that he is now left only with the shorts that he was wearing.

Investigations are ongoing.
