Fraud accused on $250,000 bail

Sherwin Williams was yesterday charged with fraudulently converting US$5,000 to his own use, after being tasked with changing it to local currency.

Williams was placed on $250,000 bail, after pleading not guilty to a fraudulent conversion charge when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation against Williams is that on August 3, at Georgetown, being solely entrusted by Mohamed Bacchus with the sum of US$5,000 in order that he may change same to Guyana currency and return to the said Bacchus, he fraudulently converted same to his own use and benefit.

Williams was unrepresented by counsel but requested bail. He told the court that he resides at 42 Cooper Street, Albouystown, Georgetown.

The prosecution had no objection to Williams’ bail application and bail was granted and the case adjourned until September 14.
