Top CAPE students

Queen’s College student, 18-year-old Navindra Baldeo, said that he was blown away after learning that he had performed so well at CAPE even though he was recognized as the Caribbean’s top performer in the Sciences two years ago when he wrote CXC.

“I didn’t expect to so well… I am very surprised… when I wrote CXC I wasn’t expecting that one either,” the enthusiastic student told Stabroek News. He said preparing for exams was tedious work and he went to many extra lessons and studied along with friends who lent tremendous support. “My friends were there for me the most…we would usually get together and study so they were very supportive… Also, my teachers and my mom, everyone,” he said. Baldeo said that he had won a scholarship to the University of the West Indies after being recognized for his outstanding performance at CXC and so he would finally use that opportunity to further his studies. “I already applied and everything but I was only waiting on these results,” he added. The young man said his future ambition is to become a doctor.

James said that she plans on returning to QC to complete her upper sixth schooling. At the moment, she added, she is giving serious consideration to pursuing a career as a psychiatrist but she has not decided as yet. “I’m just glad everything worked out… And I must thank God, my parents, relatives, all of my teachers and friends,” she stated.

Christopher Chinnatambi, 19, said he is very pleased with his accomplishment but excited as well. When Stabroek News caught up with him at his home, the former Bishops’ High School Student said that preparation for this exam had to be consistent and he was required to study solid hours. To do this he took a very disciplined approach. Chinnatambi said that he will be attending the University of Guyana where he intends to study Chemistry or Medicine. He noted that his goal is to become a Chemical Engineer or a Cardiologist. He thanked the staff of Queen’s College where he studied for two years to complete his Upper Sixth education and teachers Robert Carol, Shirley Jordan and Shelly Harris.
