Barbados-based Guyanese musician to run children’s workshop on playing recorder

Acclaimed Barbados-based Guyanese musician Derry Atkins will be conducting a six-day workshop here to teach 30 students between the ages of 8 to 15 how to play the recorder.

The participants will come primarily from the Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, area and will include some members of the TIF/Bosco Stell Orchestra, a press release from Guyenterprise said yesterday.

Daily classes from 10:00-12:00hrs will be held from Monday to Saturday in the new boardroom in the compound of the Orphanage, Ben Profitt Drive, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara.

The Ministry of Culture through the National School of Music is collaborating with the Tina Insanally Foundation to organize this workshop.

Atkins is now back in Guyana to give of his time and talent to young aspiring musicians, the release added.
