Man charged with throwing missiles at woman’s house

-lawyer blames medical condition

A young man was yesterday charged with threatening a woman and throwing missiles at her house, which his lawyer said was due to a medical condition.

Careem Stuart, 19, of 559 Toucan Drive, South Ruimveldt is accused of threatening and throwing missiles at the home of Mariska Giddings, thereby causing a breach of the peace.

Stuart, who was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, who placed him on $15,000 bail.

It is alleged that Stuart committed the offence on August 14, at Georgetown.

Attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat, who represented Stuart, said the young man lives with both of his parents and is currently unemployed. In seeking bail, Fung—a-Fat stated that he spoke to Stuart’s father, who informed that the young man was on medication and that his behaviour is as a result of a medical condition. The lawyer presented a prescription and what appeared to be a medical testimonial to support his claims.

Magistrate Octive-Hamilton, having examined the submissions, then stated that the prescription dated one year back, and that Stuart looked perfectly fine and even responded to every question she asked.

Nevertheless, the Magistrate granted bail and transferred the case to Court One for September 28, for reports on fixtures.
