Elderly NA couple attacked by mentally-challenged man

An elderly Stanleytown, New Amsterdam couple was last evening stabbed about their bodies by a mentally-challenged man who reportedly used a glass bottle to commit the act.

Bobby Ribby and Elvie Ribby, in their 80s and 70s respectively, were rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital for immediate treatment. The woman was said to be have been stabbed to the face while the man suffered chops to the hands.

Stabroek News understands that the man invaded the couple’s Pearl Street Housing Scheme home sometime around 7pm with a broken bottle in his hand and launched the attack.

Mrs. Rigby who resides with her husband had left to go and call her teenaged grandchildren, who live with her, from church and upon her return, she encountered the attacker. A relative said that the man broke a bottle and started to stab Mrs. Rigby and later attacked her husband.

At the hospital, relatives gathered and waited on word from doctors about the condition of the couple. It was later learnt from a relative that the perpetrator is in police custody.
