Charged over murder of joiner

A man on Monday appeared before Magistrate Khrisndat Persaud at the Whim court charged over the murder of a No.79 Village joiner.
Robert Rawlings of Kingston, Corriverton, Corentyne was charged with the murder of Kumar Singh, 49, a joiner of 34 Yacoob Street, No.79 Village, Corentyne.

Rawlings was not required to plead to the charge. He is expected to return to court on September 19th, 2012.

It was reported that Singh’s lifeless body was discovered on the floor of his bedroom  on 22nd of August 2012.

A post-mortem examination showed that the joiner died of manual strangulation.

The case is being prosecuted by police corporal Althea Solomon.

In addition, Rawlings was yesterday sentenced to six months imprisonment by Magistrate Persaud.

Rawlings was charged recently for the unlawful wounding of Mickal Thomas on the 1st of July, 2012.

In the Springlands magistrate’s court yesterday he changed his plea from not guilty to guilty and was sentenced.
