Police had said that the fatal accident occurred at about 10:15pm at the Bath Village Public Road, at Mahaicony, on the East Coast of Demerara, which resulted in the death of pedestrian Benjamin (only name), 44 years, of Supply, Mahaica. The accident occurred moments after Benjamin, a father of two, had left a wedding reception in the area.

According to information out of the police Public Relations Department, the magistrate set bail at $1.5M on the most serious offence and $100,000 each for the other charges.

Jairam is to return to court on September 24.

Benjamin was taken to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, while Jairam was arrested.
