Sean De Freitas Sookdeo, the Mon Repos taxi driver whose bullet-riddled body was found at Thomas Road early Tuesday morning, died as a result of multiple gunshot injuries, a post-mortem examination has revealed.

Police yesterday provided no information on how many times Sookdeo, 25, was shot. Crime Chief Seelall Persaud had told this newspaper after the discovery that Sookdeo sustained a total of four gunshot wounds to the head, abdomen and left arm.

He said that from all indications, the man had been tortured as he had cigarette burns about the body. Stabroek News was later told that Sookdeo, a father of one, also sustained a broken arm.

His mother, Carol Sookdeo, said that there was no new information from the police. She said that the family was busy finalising arrangements for his funeral tomorrow.

The discovery of the man’s body was made at 6am on Tuesday and hours later his locked car was discovered parked in front of his sister Alisha’s home.

Persaud told this newspaper that investigators are working on the theory that a soured car deal may have led to the brutal murder, after information surfaced that threats were made to his life about a month ago after he failed to deliver a promised car.

The man’s relatives have since denied that he was involved in any wrongdoing and said that in time the truth will be revealed. Relatives said that the only problem they knew about had to do with $800,000 that he had loaned to someone.
