Thirty-five scouts complete work study with police force

Thirty-five young scouts graduated from the work study programme organized by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Friday.

The programme, which lasted from July 30 to August 24, was based on teaching the participants a variety of skills such as tailoring, electrical training, construction, playing the steel pan and office procedures among other things. Over $300,000 were also handed out to the participants who were paid $493 for each day they attended the work study. The sum allocated was dependent on the number of days attended.

Scouts within the age range of 7-16 years from A, B and C divisions participated in the programme which was held at Eve Leary. Three of the participants have signalled their intention of joining the photography department of the police’s apprentice school.

Speaking at the event, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Balram Persaud, noted that it is important to work with youths. He added that the GPF is seeking to change perceptions about policemen so that they can be seen as friends who have taken the time off to protect life and property.
