Student hit on pedestrian crossing by speeding car

A 16-year-old Brickdam Secondary School student was last evening hit down by a car that was allegedly speeding as she was about to cross on a pedestrian crossing  at Flour Mill Road, Eccles, East Bank Demerara.

Injured, and currently a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital, is Akeisha Jackman of Eccles, East Bank Demerara. She sustained a broken leg and bruises to other parts of her body as a result of the accident. Up to press time she was receiving medical treatment at the hospital. The car that was involved in the accident carries the registration number PMM 939.

The girl’s mother, Althea Jackman, stated that she was at work when she received a call that her daughter was involved in an accident. She said she did not know much about what transpired but learned that her daughter had just gotten out of a bus and was standing at the pedestrian crossing when she was struck by the car, which was allegedly speeding.

The car was driving from Georgetown when the accident occurred.

The driver of the car is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
