Vendor accused of using forged US notes

Vendor Trevor Olivier was yesterday accused of trying to defraud a man by using forged United States currency notes in a transaction with him.

Olivier, 21, of 59 Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with having possession of forged currency notes and uttering forged currency notes, for which he was placed on $150,000 bail by Magistrate Faith McGusty.

It was alleged that on August 30, he had in his possession five US$100 notes, knowing the same to be forged. It was also alleged that with the intent to defraud Julius Belgrave, he tendered the forged notes to him. Olivier was not required to plead to the indictable charges.

No details were provided to the court on the day in question.

The prosecution had no objections to bail but requested that the accused report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters every Monday at 9 am.

After bail was granted, the matters were then transferred to Court One for October 8 for reports and fixtures.
