Teen charged over $6M break and enter larceny

A teenager accused of stealing over $6M in household items, was yesterday granted $750,000 bail by Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that between August 8 and August 9, Cleon Lester Hopkinson, 17, of Lot 78 William Street, Campbellville, broke and entered the home of Michelle McKenzie and stole a quantity of clothing, electrical items and other valuables, totalling $6,021,000. The items were the property of McKenzie. No details of what transpired on the day in question were presented to the court.

Hopkinson, who had a visibly swollen face, said that he was identified by McKenzie and picked up by the police and charged and that he had been at the station since.

He said after maintaining his innocence, the police began to stomp him in the face.

Prosecutor Shavonne Jupiter, however, objected to bail on the grounds that the accused had a similar case before the court. The Magistrate then granted bail in the sum of $750,000.
The teen will make his next court appearance on October 9 in Court One for reports and fixtures.
