Condition of student hit on pedestrian crossing worsens

Akeisha Jackman, the Brickdam Secondary School student who was struck down on Monday by a car as she was about to cross on a pedestrian crossing  at Flour Mill Road, Eccles, East Bank Demerara, has been moved to the Georgetown Hospital’s High Dependency Unit (HDU) as her condition has worsened.

This is according to Jackman’s mother, who stated yesterday that a Computerized Tomography (CT scan) that was performed on the girl revealed that she has a fractured skull and a clot in her brain. The girl has also been unable to speak as a result of her injuries, said her mother.

Jackman was on her way home from school when the accident occurred. She had reportedly stepped out of a bus and was at the pedestrian crossing waiting to cross when she was hit by the car.

The driver of the car was taken into police custody after the accident but was subsequently released on station bail her mother said.
