Yadram, Shun spur GYO to win as Squires picks up hat-trick

Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) defeated Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) at the GCC ground in a match of the New Building Society, limited overs second division competition.

GNIC won the toss and batted but were restricted to 9 for 148 off 40 overs.

Marvin Monroe made 23 while J. Melville scored an even 50 with two sixes and seven fours.

G. Newton chipped in with 24.

Bowling for GCC, Tariq Dharamlall, Winston Forrester and Cleon Critchlow each picked up two wickets.

GCC reached 152 for 2 from 20.2 overs. Forrester led the way with 82 that included 14 fours while his opening partner Elon Fernandes scored 45.

Fernandes and Forrester put on 117 for the first wicket. J. Gravesnor had figures of 2-18 for GNIC.

In Zone `B’ Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) defeated the Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) at the MYO ground by three wickets.

DCC won the toss and elected to field.

MYO initially struggled to 5 for 62 as Dennis Squires collected a hat trick in his third over before showing good fighting spirit by staging a recovery.

Mohamed Wazid Ali scored 52 with seven fours and a six; Avinash Sookdeo 29 with six fours and Richard Latiff hit 75 batting at number eight, striking 13 fours and two sixes. Squires finished with 4 for 21 from 6.3 overs, Cavell Reece 3 for 33 and Omesh Dhanram a three wicket maiden in his only over as MYO reached 213 in just 29.3 overs.

Squires then scored a half century while Dexter George compiled a composed half century of his own in an unbroken 119-run seventh wicket partnership with Khemraj Rupee who brought up the victory and his half century with a boundary as DCC reached 6 for 216 in 35.3 overs.

Squires scored a brisk 55 with nine fours and two sixes after DCC had lost early wickets. George and Rupee saw their team home with 63 not out and 50 not out respectively. Shaheed Gittens took 3 for 38 for MYO.

At GNIC, Ace Warriors went down to Transport Sports Club. Ace Warriors won the toss decided to field. After two early wickets from Mortland Ward a 96-run partnership between Jonathan Alphonso who slammed 44 with six fours and two sixes and Devon Nandan, whose 51 included eight fours and three sixes ensued. Shawn Massiah then featured in several useful partnerships with the lower order before he was last out for 77 which included eight fours and three sixes as Transport made 255 in 37.1 overs. Ward finish with 2 for 43, Delon Azore 2 for 29 and Cleon Halley 2 for 26.

Ace Warriors were restricted to 150 in 22 overs. Levar Douglas made 59 and L. Griffin 25. Devon Nandan took 2 for 39, Azim Azeez 2 for 42 and Alphonso 3 for 25.

Transport Sports club completed the game with a victory margin of 105 runs.

At the Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) ground, GYO defeated Third Class by 76 runs. GYO won the toss and batted, reaching 4 for 254 from 40 overs with Under 19 player Kamesh Yadram scoring 111 which included 21 fours. Deryck Koulen supported with 35 not out while Tagenarine Chanderpaul struck seven fours in 54.

R. Ramroop took 2 for 43 for Third Class.

Third Class fell short as they were all out for 178 in 34 overs with

Ryan Shun picked up 5 for 33.
