Four-year-old Mon Repos accident victim discharged

Lakhram Sugrim, the four-year-old boy who was involved in an accident that killed his father at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD) last Thursday, was discharged from the Georgetown Hospital Paediatric Unit on Tuesday.

He is currently at home with his family, but will have to return to the hospital for check-ups, his mother told this newspaper.

Lakhram, who sustained mainly head injuries, survived the accident that claimed the life of his father, Rajendra Sugrim, who was towing him on a bicycle.

Sugrim and his son were returning to their home after visiting an ice-cream parlour farther west along the public road when the accident occurred.

An eyewitness had said that he was driving west along the Mon Repos public road, near the market, when he heard a loud bang.

He said when he looked up he saw a bicycle being flung into a corner of the road while a man lay motionless on the ground.
