Contractor remanded over gun find

A contractor, who is alleged to have been found with a gun although he is not a licensed firearm holder, was refused bail on Friday.

Deon Gordon, 34 of Lot 88 Leopold Street, was charged with possession of a .38 revolver without being the holder of a licence when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Gordon pleaded not guilty to the offence.

It was alleged that around 1.30am on September 11, in Georgetown, Gordon was found with the weapon by police ranks on mobile patrol. The patrol was travelling west on Croal Street when it spotted Gordon, who was approached as a result of his suspicious actions.

Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield stated that while performing a search on Gordon, the police found the revolver and arrested him. He objected to bail due to the seriousness of the offence.

As a result, the magistrate remanded the accused to prison and the matter was then transferred to Court Three for reports and fixtures.
