Over 20 teachers complete Maths, Science workshops

Over 20 teachers were awarded certificates for completing a four-week workshop endorsed by the Ministry of Education to help students do better at Mathematics and Science, as the India Science Exhibition wound down on Friday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

The workshop which also received help from the National Centre for Education Resources Development (NCERD), aimed at helping teachers use visual aids and virtual labs, which would see students excel more in these subject areas.

Kawan Gopaul, the curator of the Science museum in India, urged the participants to use every tool they have learned from the experience to better help students to relate well to Mathematics and Science.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr Frank Anthony, said that he was very happy to be part of the exercise.
Anthony added that the country has brilliant students, but there is still need for improvement.
He added that the teachers who participated in the four week workshop have a responsibility to see growth in the Science and Mathematics fields.

He noted that 2,000 students would have seen the exhibition and gleaned a great deal of knowledge.
He further stated that the Indian nationals will leave a number of DVDs, which will help enhance learning in schools. The Ministry of Education will also donate a number of tools to help assist them with the Science and Mathematics venture.
The teachers were presented with their certificates by the minister.
The Indian Science and Technology Exhibition ends today.
