Two Port Mourant women found dead with wounds to throat

The police say they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Flory Papayya, 33 years, and Jennifer Pooran, 19 years, both of Miss Phoebe, Port Mourant, Corentyne, whose bodies were found at about 0730h today in the backlands at Adventure, Corentyne, with wounds to their throats.

Initial investigations, police said, have revealed that the two victims and a man had left for the Adventure Backlands at about 0700h yesterday to cut branches to make brooms which they sell. The man later returned and said that he and the two women had been attacked by four men and that he had managed to escape.

He is under police guard at the New Amsterdam Hospital as the investigations continue, police said.
